Desk notes

Short, educational, and deliberately without a price target. Notes are updated as practice changes, not as a signal service.

Index structure

Why five names can be the index

USTEC is capitalisation-weighted. A session in which the largest holdings move together will look like “tech” even when the median constituent is flat. Read breadth, not only the headline price, before calling a day a trend.

Funding

What changed when yields moved

Overnight charges on long index CFDs rise when the interest benchmark used in the formula rises. A strategy that was cheap to hold in a zero-rate year can be a carry cost now. Re-read the card quarterly.

Session craft

The first minutes are a different market

The cash equity open is when spreads on single-name CFDs and, often, on USTEC are least representative of the midday quote. If your plan needs the typical spread, it is a midday plan.

Risk

A stop is an instruction, not a wish

Standard stops trigger an order. They do not invent liquidity. Over a weekend the next price can be far from Friday’s close. That is the case the guaranteed stop was written for.
